An e-bike rebate is a government or program incentive that reduces an eligible buyer's purchase cost. Street Rides reviewed current federal, provincial, territorial, municipal, tax, and program-administrator pages. We found one clearly verified active local cash-rebate lane in Banff, an active BC tax exemption, a Yukon past-purchase claim window, and several ended or paused programs.

KEY FINDINGS
  • Canada's federal Electric Vehicle Affordability Program excludes two-wheeled vehicles such as e-bikes.
  • PEI paused its $500 e-bike incentive on April 15, 2026.
  • Banff has a current local rebate for eligible residents and businesses.
  • Qualifying e-bikes and e-trikes remain exempt from BC PST.
  • BC's income-tested consumer rebate ended September 30, 2025.
  • Yukon only accepts eligible claims for purchases made on or before March 31, 2026.
  • Most buyers should check local programs rather than expect a province-wide rebate.

Which E-Bike Incentives Are Available in Canada?

The current incentive map has several different program types. Treating all of them as “rebates” creates false expectations.

Location Status What it means
Banff, Alberta Active local rebate Eligible residents can receive the lesser of 50% or $500, $750, or $1,000. Eligible businesses can receive the lesser of 25% or $500 per bike.
British Columbia Active PST exemption Qualifying e-bikes, e-trikes, and conversion kits receive tax relief. This is not the former cash rebate.
Prince Edward Island Paused The province paused the $500 program on April 15, 2026 while funding and details are finalized.
Yukon Past-purchase claims only Eligible purchases made by March 31, 2026 can be submitted within one year of purchase.
Most other regions No verified region-wide consumer rebate Check municipal, utility, employer, and local climate programs before buying.

TAKEAWAY: First identify the program type. A tax exemption, paused program, and past-purchase claim window do not help the same buyer.

Is There a Federal E-Bike Rebate in Canada?

No current federal consumer purchase rebate covers e-bikes. Transport Canada's Electric Vehicle Affordability Program requires at least four functioning wheels and explicitly excludes e-bikes, scooters, and motorcycles.

Read Transport Canada's eligibility answer.

TAKEAWAY: Do not apply a federal car-rebate headline to a two-wheeled e-bike purchase.

How Does the Banff E-Bike Rebate Work?

Banff's post-purchase program is the clearest active cash-rebate lane we verified. Banff residents can receive the lesser of 50% or $500. Banff Access Program Tier 2 and Tier 1 limits rise to $750 and $1,000. Eligible businesses can receive the lesser of 25% or $500 per bike for up to two bikes.

The bike must meet provincial rules, have operable pedals, and carry UL 2849 or EN 15194 certification. Conventional e-bikes must cost less than $5,000 before tax. Cargo and adaptive e-bikes are exempt from that price cap. The receipt, serial number, residency or business eligibility, and payment method also matter.

Check the Town of Banff program before purchase.

TAKEAWAY: Banff offers meaningful support, but a non-compliant bike or incomplete receipt can still fail.

What E-Bike Savings Remain in British Columbia?

British Columbia's income-tested e-bike rebate ended September 30, 2025. Qualifying e-bikes and e-trikes still remain PST exempt. The bike needs pedals or hand cranks, qualifying wheel size, no more than 500 W continuous output, and no more than 32 km/h motor capability. It cannot be marketed as an electric motorcycle, moped, scooter, or similar device.

SCRAP-IT separately lists a $300 cash rebate for scrapping a qualifying vehicle. That is a vehicle-retirement program, not a general e-bike purchase rebate.

Read the BC PST requirements and check SCRAP-IT's current rebate choices.

TAKEAWAY: BC buyers can still save, but they should not wait for or claim the ended income-tested rebate.

Can PEI or Yukon Buyers Still Get a Rebate?

PEI's $500 incentive is paused. The official page says the pause began April 15, 2026 while 2026-27 funding and final details are completed. Buyers should not assume a purchase made during the pause will qualify later.

Yukon's purchase period ended March 31, 2026. Eligible buyers who purchased by that date have one year from their purchase date to apply. A new purchase after March 31 does not qualify under that program.

Check PEI's current status and review Yukon's claim rules.

TAKEAWAY: A paused program is not approval, and a claim window is not a new-purchase incentive.

What Should You Check Before Applying?

Check the official program page on the day you buy. Confirm funding, approval timing, purchase dates, retailer rules, bike specifications, safety certification, price caps, and required proof. Keep the paid invoice, model, serial number, payment record, and residency documents.

Never choose a bike only because an estimated rebate makes the price attractive. First confirm the model fits your riding needs and local e-bike rules. Then confirm the exact program accepts that model and purchase path.

TAKEAWAY: The official administrator decides eligibility. A calculator, retailer, or article cannot guarantee approval.

How We Verified This Guide

Street Rides reviewed official federal, provincial, territorial, municipal, tax, and program-administrator pages on July 30, 2026. We classified each result as active cash rebate, active tax relief, paused, past-purchase claim window, ended, or not verified region-wide. We excluded rumours and pages without current public terms.

This review does not capture every short-lived municipal, employer, utility, Indigenous, or community program. Program funding can change after publication. The official source always controls.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a federal e-bike rebate in Canada?

No. The current federal Electric Vehicle Affordability Program excludes two-wheeled vehicles such as e-bikes. Buyers need to check provincial, territorial, municipal, tax, trade-in, employer, or local programs.

Is the PEI $500 e-bike rebate active?

No. PEI's official page says the incentive has been paused since April 15, 2026 while funding and final 2026-27 program details are completed. Check the official page before buying.

Does BC still have an e-bike rebate?

The income-tested cash rebate ended September 30, 2025. Qualifying e-bikes and e-trikes remain PST exempt. SCRAP-IT also lists a separate $300 cash path for scrapping a qualifying vehicle.

Can Yukon buyers still apply?

Only some past buyers can apply. Eligible purchases made on or before March 31, 2026 can be submitted within one year of purchase. New purchases after that deadline do not qualify.

Are online e-bike purchases eligible?

It depends on the program. Some require an approved, local, or Canadian retailer. Others require a specific invoice and payment record. Confirm seller rules before checkout rather than assuming an online receipt will qualify.

Can a high-power e-bike qualify?

Often not. Programs commonly use legal e-bike definitions, including pedals, motor-output limits, assist-speed limits, and product-format rules. Banff also requires UL 2849 or EN 15194 certification.
