The Real Range Calculator estimates how far your electric scooter will actually go in Canadian conditions. Manufacturers test range at room temperature, on flat ground, with a lightweight rider. That is not Canada. This calculator adjusts for your weight, your local temperature, your terrain, and how honest the manufacturer's claims actually are.
Select your scooter from our database (auto-fills claimed range and brand honesty factor) or enter custom values. Then adjust the sliders for your weight, temperature, and terrain.
See what your scooter actually delivers in Canadian conditions.
Auto-filled when you select a scooter. 0.85 = honest brand. 0.55 = inflated claims.
Not all manufacturers are equally truthful about range. We track how closely each brand's real-world performance matches their claims, calibrated from tested-vs-claimed range studies and verified buyer reports.
| Honesty Level | Factor | Brands |
|---|---|---|
| High honesty | 0.80 - 0.85 | Segway, Ninebot, EMOVE, Dualtron, Apollo, VSETT |
| Moderate | 0.70 - 0.75 | Gotrax, Hiboy, Kaabo, Razor, Mercane, SHOK |
| Low honesty | 0.55 - 0.65 | Gyrocopters, iScooter, MEGAWHEELS, Kukirin |
Lithium-ion batteries lose capacity in cold weather. This is physics, not a defect. The effect is reversible: the battery recovers its full capacity when it warms up. But during a cold ride, you get less range.
| Temperature | Range Impact | Canadian Context |
|---|---|---|
| 20°C and above | Full range | June through August |
| 10°C | -10% | September, October, May |
| 0°C | -25% | November, March, April |
| -10°C | -45% | December, January, February |
| -20°C | -60% | Cold snaps in prairies and Quebec |
Heavier riders draw more power from the motor. Our baseline is 75 kg. Each additional 10 kg reduces range by approximately 5%. Lighter riders gain a small range bonus.
Hills force the motor to work harder. Regenerative braking on downhills recovers some energy, but not enough to offset the uphill cost.

Every variable is explained on our SR Score Methodology page.
No. Use the calculator to estimate your real range, then add a 10% safety margin. If your commute is 12 km round trip, you need at least 13 to 14 km of real range to avoid running out.
Yes. Riding at top speed drains the battery faster than riding at 60 to 70% of top speed. This calculator assumes moderate riding speed, not full throttle the entire trip.
Yes. Maintain proper tire pressure (low pressure increases rolling resistance). Ride at moderate speed. Avoid rapid acceleration. Store and charge the battery at room temperature. These habits can improve range by 10 to 15% over careless riding.
